German Family Registries

The best way to trace the relatives is to start with Peter and Katherine Leuck, who emigrated from Germany in 1882, and go backwards from there.  I am spelling the names the way they are in the books.  Our name originated as Leuk, but changed to Leuck at some point in history, likely due to not being able to read and write.

Start in the Familienbuch Borg

  1. Page 106, entry 520 Peter Leuk, son of 521

  2. Page 106, entry 521, Peter Leuk, son of 500

  3. Page 102, entry 500, Christoph Leuk, son of 508

  4. Page 103, entry 508, Johannes Leuk (also entry 10.911 in Mettlach Familienbuch)

Go to Mettlach Familienbuch (Please note page numbers are based on the # on the page and not the # in order.  I was only able to upload a small amount due to the huge file this family book consists of)

  1. Page 439, entry 10.911 Johannes Leuck (same as above), son of 10.903

  2. Page 438, entry 10.903, Leuck (no first name available).  This entry reads: Namensträger in Hellendorf, vermutlich Enkel zur Franz -10.869-, vielleicht aber auch zu Adam -10-931-, Derek Zuordnung aber nicht möglich erscheint. Translation: Name bearer in Hellendorf, likely the grandson of Franz -10.869-, or perhaps to Adam, however this assignment does not appear possible.

  3. So now here is where it gets tricky.  If you believe the "grandson of Franz, 10.869, then, which appears to be more likely:

  4. Page 432, entry 10.869 Franz Leuck, son of 10.854

  5. Page 429, entry 10.854 Theodor Leuck (Diedrich) senior.  This entry reads:  Meier in Oberleuken (vermutlich im lothringischem Ortsteil) am 23.4.1688 letzmalig erwähnt (zusammen mit seiner Tochter Elizabeth Paten bei seine Enkel Diederich 10.858c. Translation:  Mayor in Oberleuken (probably in the Lorraine district) last mentioned on April 23, 1688 (together with his daughter Elizabeth became guardian of his grandson Diederich).

  6. This is where the research has ended, likely because that is about when surnames were starting to be used in this area.

This pedigree chart was created at Ancestry.com.  It's a work in progress.  I have included only the portion pertaining to the Leuck heritage.
